“origins”

"ORIGINS” is a meditation on the fundamental building blocks of life and consciousness. Composed entirely of raw charcoal fragments arranged in a dense, dynamic field, the work explores carbon as both material and metaphor - the elemental substance from which all organic life emerges. The charcoal itself carries deep significance - transformed by fire, it represents matter in a state of elemental change. These fragments, arranged in organized chaos, mirror the processes of the universe itself - the way carbon is transformed through heat and pressure, the way life emerges from basic elements. As an homage to the primary material used throughout my work, "ORIGINS” makes visible the substance that usually remains hidden within the final piece. It reveals the raw material in its pure state, celebrating carbon as both the physical and metaphysical foundation of existence.

This piece is paired with a custom made frame finished with a traditional Japanese technique called shou sugi ban. This ancient technique preserves wood by charring it.
